Pune: “It’s very heartwarming to see that visually-challenged students can achieve so much by acquiring such great talents and can be so vibrant,” said Miu Nguyen, one of the 17 students from Hochschule Konstanz University (HKU) in Germany, who visited The Poona School and Home for the Blind Trust on Thursday.
“This opportunity taught us that we can fight fate and evolve successfully,” she said.
The students visited the blind school to study the functioning and the management of the initiative.
The German guests were welcomed with traditional aarti and tikka while the students of Poona Blind School showered flower petals on them. The visitors were charmed by their spirited gesture and rejoiced the visit as they took a stroll in their classrooms, library, dining hall, bedrooms and were amazed to see the determination of the students.
The guests were then graced by a mallakhamb performance by the blind students, which left them flabbergasted.
“It was such a spectacular act, we have never seen or heard of something so illustrious before. I was awestruck and couldn’t take my eyes off them,” said Marlende Bay, a student from Germany.
The programme was then followed by a cultural show staged by all the visually impaired students, who played various musical instruments and also sung songs where all the visitors applauded the melodic performances.
