Tree plantation drive held at PBS

Pune: Several schoolchildren, employees of many corporate offices and the staff of The ‘O’ Hotel and Oxford Group undertook a tree plantation drive at Poona Blind School (PBS) in Koregaon Park on Thursday.

Together, those present planted several saplings of fruit trees on the premises of the blind school.

The tree plantation drive was a part of Oxford Group’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) activities and silver jubilee celebrations. Among the participating schools were St Mary’s School Junior College, Bishop’s School, Camp, Kalyani School and City International School, Wanawadi.

About five to six students from each school, accompanied by their teachers, kicked off the plantation drive. Five students from Poona Blind School also participated in the drive and planted five saplings.
After the students finished the plantation, the employees of corporate offices including Fag Bearing, Uttam Energy, Synygy Software (Arrezo Sky), Infoedge, Datwyler, BG Shirke and Co, GXP Pharma and Grant Thorton planted saplings along with the employees of the Oxford Group.

While addressing the gathering, General Manager of The O Hotel Gautam Banerjee said, “Oxford Group has always been instrumental in creating green projects and on its 25th anniversary, I wanted to take that dream one step ahead by imbibing the green theory at a time when the world is facing the effects of global warming. Therefore, we chose to do the plantation at the hands of children who are the vision of future. We decided to plant fruit trees so that the children at the blind school can consume the fruits. We also wish to provide the school with a kitchen garden that can be utilised by the children here.”

He added that through this cause, the attendees were also able to understand and show normal children, how children without vision live their lives.
